Brief Position Summary
• Excellent writing skills, a keen eye for detail and a can-do attitude.
• A nose for news and the ability to source exclusive and other stories.
• Source, write and edit news stories and features for both print and online.
• Attend events, conferences and interview industry professionals.
• Undertake any additional editorial responsibilities related to the brand or on occasion, for CPI.
• Ability to plan the cover every month.
• Ensure all publishing deadlines are met religiously.
• Work very closely with the sales manager on the title to maximise the potential of the magazine each month.
• Abide by and implement editorial strategies as communicated by the Editor/Group Editorial Director.
• Work in line with the strategic vision of the company, maintaining all company policies and procedures.
• Liaise with the relevant departments to ensure all of the publication’s targets are met.
• Take pride in your work and take ownership of the brand.
• Ensure a high quality of editorial content and make your magazine a one-stop guide for your target audience.
• Think commercially and help with the execution of revenue-generating ideas such as supplements, guides, distribution guides, roundtables and so on.
• Work towards conducting at least one roundtable every quarter with your sales person.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities:
• Actively and successfully manage the title’s publications process, ensuring that no delays are incurred.
• Consistent accurate and timely completion and submission of all editorial content under the 60/30/10 system.
• To direct and lead in the positioning of the publications.
• Ensure that the publication is produced within the Company’s editorial guidelines.
• Consistent achievement of individual key performance targets.
• Understand the marketplace, including all competitors to identify opportunities for future growth.
• Analyzing and reporting competitor activities and initiatives.
• Plan and research for existing events and projects.
• Form relationships with the research companies within the publication sectors.
• The production and maintenance of the Annual Editorial Calendar.
• Travel to relevant conferences to market your publication and identify editorial content.
• Make an attempt to include at least one new VIP interview or case study every month.
• Actively seek new trade associations and professional bodies.
• Develop and deliver effective quarterly “landmark issues” for each publication.
• Develop and deliver a comprehensive online and social media strategy in line with the Group Editorial Director’s brief.
• Review your own performance aiming to consistently meet or exceed targets, as defined in your KPIs.
• Work closely with your sales person so he knows what content you are carrying for the following month.
• Review your editorial for each month with your line manager.
• Management of deadlines and production - Flat Plans, Final Ad Counts, Signing off on publication proofs.
• To actively promote best practice sales techniques as identified by the business.
• Research current trends to conceptualize and launch new brand events to maximize product positioning and sales revenue.
• Ensure active participation at publication’s events and extend complete support in terms of social media, interviews, press releases and post-event content for both print and online.
• Work closely with the events team to ensure your brand’s presence at major exhibitions and events.
