Job Purpose:

Biobank Qatar will collect clinical and laboratory data on volunteer participants who consent to becoming research participants. Although collected primarily for research use, it is possible that we will discover incidental findings of clinical relevance. The chain of consequences from these discoveries is dependent on clinical interpretation of the findings, following which appropriate actions can be taken.



This position is one of the posts within the Clinical Data Interpretation Service, which will conduct review and interpretation of clinical information generated within Biobank Qatar’s clinic and laboratories. This data will be made available from the IT record system, flagged by the clinic nursing staff or flagged in reports from specialist services such as clinical laboratories or radiology.

This role will be fulfilled working on a shift basis.



Specifically, you will:

1) Work within the clinic on a shift-basis, providing authoritative and expert interpretation of clinical data.

• Review flagged “abnormal” data for clinical context and relevance.

• Decide on appropriate clinical action, with reference to agreed algorithms and referral mechanisms.

• Participation in the implementation, review and revision of clinic policies and procedures.

2) Data sources requiring review will include:

• Data collected from participant interviewing / history taking.

• Data collected from a panel of specified physical / clinical measurements and assessments on participants attending the Biobank Qatar clinic according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

o In the first instance, the following clinical measurements will be conducted:

 Blood Pressure

 Pulse

 ECG

 Height and weight measurements

 Body composition using a Tanita Body Composition analyser (bioimpedance)

 Bone densitometry and Whole Body Scan using an iDEXA scanner (undertaken by a qualified radiographer)

 Lung function tests including spirometry

 Retinal photography.

 Data collected from clinical laboratory analysis of peripheral venous blood.



KEY RESULT AREAS

1. Timely and efficient review of data, with actions recommended according to agreed clinical algorithms.

2. Where appropriate, make urgent referrals to clinical services within Hamad Medical Corporation in accordance with agreed referral mechanisms.

3. Participant feedback and explanation of findings where necessary, with recommendations for further action where appropriate.

4. To ensure that the participant experience is a positive one by the smooth running of the biometrics stations.
