The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment, investigation and treatment of all patients attending the Haematology Day Unit. Roles will include working with nursing teams and liaising with Local Health Centre family Physicians. Patients will be received from the Emergency Department at a well known medical clinic which is not going to be a walk in facility.



There will be exciting opportunities to develop the HODU service in parallel with Nurse Specialists and the Clinical lead of the a nearby blood disorder centre. The Day Unit is run 12 hours a day 7 days a week. There will be potential for career development and working with the blood disorder clinical teams within the facility.



The postholder may also provide middle grade cover for the in-patient benign clinical haematology service, which consists of predominently Sickle Cell Disease patients. This will involve working with junior residents on the Day Unit but potentially cross covering and supporting ward care. Ward rounds and attendance at the consultant-led ward round / Board rounds may also be required in addition to clinically led Haematology training.



There will be a requirement to integrate and facilitate a multi-disciplinary approach in conjunction with Senior nurses and other ancillary professionals who are engaged on the Day Care Unit.



The role will encompass the development and implementation of pain management strategies and protocols, in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and interface with Pain Specialists and other members of the MDT.



The facility is brand new, with its own pharmacy, two adult Benign Haematology wards, a Transition Care ward for adolescents and transfusion/venesection treatment areas.



The working week will be 40hours with two shifts running between 0700Hrs-1900Hrs daily, 7 days a week. Participation with other members of the MDT in CPD and audit will be required. The postholder will be encouraged to contribute to teaching junior medical staff and students and to share cover of routine duties when your colleagues are on leave.
