Position Title : Director of Legal Affairs



Reporting Relationships : Chief Operations Officer - COO



Role Purpose:

To provide strategic direction, general management and operational oversight for the Legal Affairs Division at Qatar Museums (QMA) with the objective of supporting QMA on all legal, compliance, corporate governance and contractual matters regardless of the jurisdiction to which the matter relates.



Key Accountabilities

1. Strategic Planning & Direction:

 Contributes to the development and implementation of QMA organizational strategy

 Leads and directs the Legal Affairs Division and takes responsibility for achieving the Division's long term goals in line with QMA's organizational strategy and objectives

 Develops annual plans and performance targets and ensures their successful implementation

 Consolidates the annual budget for the Division and oversees its implementation

 Prepares periodic reports on progress of any initiatives and objectives in line with QMA reporting requirements

 Works with the Management on setting KPIs to measure the success of the Division

2. Advisory :

 Provides legal advice and assistance to all QMA Divisions on confidentiality agreements, employment contracts, terms and conditions of employment, policies and procedures, financing documents, Board matters and issues, company law, commercial law, environmental law, etc.

 Manages QMA’s exposure to legal risks in agreements with suppliers/service providers by the use of standard terms and conditions

 Advises Senior Management on the impact of applicable laws or regulations on business or operations and proposes practical, cost-effective solutions

 Represents QMA in all legal affairs in order to resolve disputes and protect the interests of QMA

 Provides feedback to the CEO regarding QMA’s legal compliance and identified risks

 Formulates and communicates mitigation strategies on identified legal risks

3. Compliance :

 Develops and implements robust compliance and governance programs and structures, and educates staff on the same

 Develops an effective reporting system to monitor adherence to QMA’s legal policies and procedures

 Investigates and actions serious compliance breaches and misconduct

 Oversees the safe retention of all corporate records, documents, agreements, contracts, leases and legal papers, and handling retention and destruction of the same in accordance with the QMA’s policies

4. Stakeholder

 Builds and manages relationship with law firm(s) and approve any expenditure with advisers/law firms

 Develops professional expertise through continuous professional development and effective networking with internal and external parties in order to maintain an awareness and knowledge of legal issues

 Represents QMA on key legal matters

 Ensures internal and cross-functional communication on key legal matters

 Attends conferences, events, conferences and speaking opportunities promoting QMA when required

5. Talent Management

 Builds a working environment that promotes high level of professionalism, responsibility and dedication to QMA goals

 Leads and motivates staff to drive performance and engagement

 Drives Qatarisation programs to enable QMA to attract local talent and to develop talent over time to take on meaningful roles within QMA

 Ensures proper target setting and staff performance management in line with QMA performance management guidelines

 Acts as a role model to communicate QMA’s values as well as core, technical and leadership competencies to direct reports
